For ten days, 12 hours per day, participants will receive instruction in creative process, acting, Alexander Technique, and movement. The schedule includes mini-master classes, coachings and private lessons with esteemed faculty and dedicated teachers. The program culminates in the first concert of the NUOVA Opera & Music Theatre Festival.

Five-Week Apprentice Program

This Five-Week Apprentice Program focuses on developing vocal technique and skills in acting and movement. It is designed for young artists in their undergraduate or first-year Masters’ degrees with limited role experience. With a focus on skill development, artists in this program will receive private voice lessons, classes in acting, Alexander Technique, Dance, Professional Artist Development classes and dialect coaching, specifically in High British.

Participants in this program will be assigned performance roles in the NUOVA Festival’s Tartuffe by Kirke Mechem, and perform as chorus in City Workers in Love by Neil Weisensel . Please note the Tartuffe & City Workers in Love are accompanied by piano only.

This program is an ideal way to develop performance skills and learn what is required to gain placement in a full mainstage performance program.

Program Dates: May 14 – June 18, 2018

Six-Week Emerging Artist Program

Designed for Canadian singers, who are of advanced standing with considerable previous training, this six-week intensive program is a must for those who wish to focus on further developing technique while simultaneously working on their performance skills. This comprehensive program provides instruction in creative process, acting, movement, Alexander Technique, diction, language and vocal interpretation taught by distinguished faculty who are experts in their field. Our guest teachers, who are internationally recognized artists, give daily mini-master classes, public forum master classes and private voice lessons and professional development seminars.

In addition to classes, private coachings and lessons, this program provides artists with the opportunity to learn and perform a complete role in a fully-staged and orchestrated opera and/or musical. This years productions are Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, & Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The Intensive Program mirrors a professional experience in that singers are expected to prepare their role prior to arriving. Music and staging rehearsals begin on the first day of the program.
